Prerequisites: Credit or registration in ENCE 2351. Properties and behavior of soils as engineering materials; the origin and classification of soils; permeability of soils; compressibility and strength characteristics of soils; elementary treatment of consolidation, earth pressure, and bearing capacity. Determination of engineering properties of soils in the laboratory. Two hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory.
