EDUC 3130 - Literacy Instruction for Learners with Dyslexia and Diverse Needs School of Education

Prerequisites: Admission to the Teacher Education Program and EDCI 3400. This course provides an overview of the body of scientific work regarding working with students with dyslexia and difficulties with literacy acquisition. Teacher candidates will be introduced to the history, epidemiology, and clinical presentation of dyslexia including early indicators and classroom presentation. Coursework will focus on evidence-based practices, such as the Science of Reading, to support the remediation and acceleration of students’ challenges and strengths. Candidates will engage in an exploration of processes required to become a dyslexia practitioner or dyslexia therapist. Field experience will be required for this course.
