Curriculum

The Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies and Planning degree (BSUSP) was approved by the Louisiana Board of Regents in the Summer of 2001. The primary objective of the program is to prepare undergraduate students for entry-level positions that assist professionals in urban planning and related fields in public and private organizations that require knowledge of cities, urban development, urban planning, urban policy, and related fields. The secondary objective is to prepare undergraduate students for professional or scholarly graduate degree programs in urban studies, urban and regional planning, transportation and related disciplines.

The BSUSP program is interdisciplinary in nature drawing on the strengths of several subject areas to provide students with a holistic approach to the study of cities, urbanization and urban life. Students can select an area of concentration in geography, urban planning, or transportation to complement their degree so as to provide in depth understanding of a specific urban topic. Students can also earn credentials in historic preservation and hazards planning.
