EES 4750 - Principles of Stratigraphy College of Sciences
Lecture/Lab - Credits: 4
Prerequisites: EES 1000 , EES 1001 , EES 2004 , EES 2005 and EES 2700 or consent of department. An introduction to the principles of stratigraphic analysis and correlation of sedimentary rocks. Provides an overview of depositional systems and stratigraphic successions in different tectonic domains. Includes practical exercises in the interpretation of depositional systems, construction of stratigraphic cross sections, construction of isopach and structural contour maps and interpretation of seismic reflection profiles. Two hours of lecture and two hours of laboratory per week with oral and written assignments. One afternoon field trip and a week-long field trip to the central/southern Appalachians are required. A field trip fee will be assessed to cover transportation and other field trip related costs.
